Yale College and Wrexham County Borough Council are thrilled to announce the award of the 100th Home Care NVQ since the start of their successful partnership scheme, marking another national first in the field of home care training.
By pooling resources, Yale College and Wrexham Social services put together a unique package of Home Care NVQ Level Two training that has allowed home carers - who are an important lifeline when caring for elderly and vulnerable clients- to have their expertise recognised in a formal qualification.
David Bull, the 100th person to achieve an NVQ award in Health and Social Care, was awarded with his certificate at the Social Services Awards Ceremony by the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Mike Edwards and the Principal of Yale College, Paul Croke.
The scheme means that Wrexham Social Services now has a higher percentage of professionally qualified home care staff than anywhere else in Wales. For many of the home carers taking part, it will be the first time they have registered at College since leaving school and many are now continuing their studies.
Jasbir Dhesi, Assistant Principal of Yale College said, "By working in partnership we have been able to pool all our resources to meet local need. This unique method of training has resulted in an excellent performance against national targets."
